I've used this lens with the HL-C (Canon) lens on an "APS-C, 1.6x crop" DSLR.The claimed angle of view is extremely inflated. It's able to capture somewhere around 60 degrees, which is what a 32mm (equiv) lens captures. In other words, you could capture a bit more with a standard compact camera or a typical DSLR kit lens than with this lens. So much for super-wide angle. The projected image is a circle the falls off the top and bottom of the APS-C sensor. So you get neither a full-sensor image nor a full-circle image. That's a quirky shape, and it's difficult to find any scenes that work in fisheye and also work in the chopped-off circle. An additional problem is that with the dark viewfinder, it's difficult to tell if the image is level, but correcting a tilted picture during editing isn't an option unless I crop the broken circle away. But if I do that, I lose much of the fisheye effect.Check around the Web and you'll find many examples of what the image from this lens looks like. Can you imagine many pictures you'd take that would look good in that form? The Holga Fisheye does provide huge depth of field, although mine seems to run about 3" (75mm) and beyond, not the 35mm claimed above. The focus isn't really that far off on closer objects, though, so the 35mm claim isn't totally out of line. In my experience with this lens, most of the fisheye-friendly images are ones with a really close subject. If you've got a good use for what this lens can do, great. But if you're getting it just to play with, be aware that you'll probably find little, if any, real use for it. And this lens is pretty expensive by Holga standards. Also: unlike other Holga lenses, the Fisheye has a flat front lens surface, which makes it susceptible to flare -- and when the Fisheye flares, the flare gets really ugly because of the effect of the sieve plate in the basic Holga lens. For me, and I think for most people, the FEL-HL gives very little (useful) bang for the buck. However, some people will find there to be sufficient "bang," and others will consider the cost to be inconsequential.Note: if you get this lens, be sure it's put on straight. The slightest tilt will cause the projected image circle to be off-center. Holga recommends removing the Holga lens from your camera before fitting this one over it, and I agree with that.
