The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX APO Macro HSM telephoto zoom lens has a large maximum aperture of f/2.8 which remains constant throughout the zoom range, improved optical performance, macro capabilities, and is optimized for digital SLR cameras. It also features super multi-layer coating, which reduces flare and ghosting. This Macro lens has improved macro capability, with a minimum focusing distance of 39.4 (100cm) and maximum magnification of 1:3.5. All zooming and focus movement is achieved internally, allowing for a constant length and great resistance to dust and moisture. It comes rendered in a hard coated, baked black EX crinkle finish. The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures a silent, high-speed AF function as well as full-time manual focusing capability for Sigma, Canon, and Nikon mount lenses. This lens can also be used with the 1.4x EX or 2.0x EX APO Tele Converters (optional), becoming a 98-280mm f/4 autofocus telephoto zoom lens or a 140-400mm f/5.6 autofocus telephoto zoom lens respectively. ? DG Lens Design The improved DG lens design corrects for various aberrations. This lens is specially coated to get the best color balance whilst cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor. ? Better than Sony on Sony

I have owned this lens for a year now, wanted to wait to give it a review until I got through all the sport seasons. This lens has really delivered. I didn't like it on my Sony a200 because, quite frankly, the lens was too good for the 200. I use it on my a700 and wow..... the extra megapixels coupled with the abilities of this lens is remarkable. I had purchased the Sony 70-200mm at a significantly higher price and was less impressed. I didn't do all my homework before purchaseing that lens and found that the Sony version did not have the seals (for dust, weather, moisture) that the Sigma has. It was a no-brainer.... the sigma is far better for the money. If you have an a200, it still is a great lens but I feel that camera can not take full advantage of the features of this lens, otherwise, get this lens, it will be the last telephoto you purchase at this range.

Very very bright lens.No focusing issues.Very heavy but worth it.Case has no belt loop.Looks good on the camera.I feel I spent my money wisely.Update: I love this lens, it's fast accurate and most of all, tack sharp. Bonus is it takes the Sigma ring flash so my macros are now much better.

a55 sigma 2.8 combo

I am very pleased with this lens. Coupled with the a55 I have been able to capture some great shot both indoor and out. The f/2.8 has made a significant difference in my ability to capture indoor, fast motion photos. The lens focuses quickly, silently and if very consistent. It works extremely well in video mode as well. Due to the lens size, it is difficult to hold mounted to the a55. Maybe quality comes with a price. The tripod mount is extremely well designed and easy to use. I would recommend this lens to anyone especially for those shooting with a camera that has stabilization internal to the camera. Purchasing from Amazon was quick and easy. It arrived ahead of schedule.
