A more solid replacement for the kit lens

I bought this lens to replace the kit lens that came with my Nikon D50. I've done some side-by-side comparisons and this lens has slightly less barrel distortion. It also appears to take brighter pictures when using a flash. Chromatic aberration (purple fringe) and sharpness seem to be about the same. The Sigma lens has a much more solid feel to it and isn't so "plastic-y".
