It provides meter coupling to your cameras exposure meter, so you maintain through-the-lens metering.

I purchased a used Belomo Peleng 8mm F/3.5 here last fall. Since then, I have used it quite extensively for landscapes and architecture. I removed the Minolta AF lensmount adapter from the lens (revealing the native M-42 screw mount), and replaced it with an M42 to Sony E mount for my Nex-5 APS C sensor camera.I can make roughly 330 degree panoramas using this lens and the NEX-5's automatic panorama stitching feature. The panorama feature even makes the stitched image rectilinear, not distorted as a fisheye. Really pretty cool. I used this many times on a recent trip to Prague and Dresden.Considering the price, I don't think it can be beaten.
