lens does not communicate aperture to camera

I confirmed with keh.com that this can be used with mamiya afd II camera but practically speaking this is not the right lens for afd II as the lens being older generation does not communicate with the camera. you have A and M on the lens. As you close down the aperture it physically gets closed down making focusing etc difficult and hence can't really be used for shooting people unless you are shooting fully open. For this price it is good enough for product / macro photography as one can focus and set the shot and then close down the aperture to take the picture. Do not buy if you need to shoot people but for once in a while macro shots it is good bargain.

Ive used this lens on a number of cameras including the Mamiya 645 which it is intended for. However, the best results have come from using on my D7000 and D800e. This lens out shines the Nikkor glass with its contrast and sharpness as well as the fact that you get more than a 1:1 magnification ratio. Both Nikon's mentioned have focus confirmation which is good because this lens has a very shallow depth of field given its focal length and image circle. When you get it spot on however the results are simply amazing. Build quality is tank like and once you know how to use this beast its a treat on any camera as a macro or short telephoto. The focusing is super precise so having good vision and a good finder is very helpful when using this class lens. I got my copy in Korea and have really gotten many amazing shots with it and it continues to be on my camera 60-70% of the time because despite the lack of modern convenience it's just that good a lens.
