Product Description
The AF Extension Tube Set can transform your Lens into a Macro Lens. It moves the lens from the film or digital sensor. The closer the focus is, the greater the magnification. The extension tube does not affect image quality as there is no optics inside. In comparison, a close up filter is often blamed for degrading the quality of image.
This tube set contains three piece tubes of different length -- 13mm, 21mm, and 31 mm -- which can be used individually or in any combination to obtain the desired magnification. These extension tubes are designed with all the circuitry and mechanical coupling to maintain auto focus and TTL auto exposure with most Canon lenses, given there is enough light to activate the cameras AF system properly.

Well, extension tubes all have the same high quality air inside of them, so there shouldn't be too much difference from one to the other... Well not quite.First, these are actually fairly robust, lock tight, and have a metal mounting flange unlike a lot of the cheapies out there. However, despite their quality, they do flex enough that stacking two is asking for trouble as lens communication is going to be an iffy thing at best. And forget about using all three at a time, even with a light-weight lens. Again, this is common to all cheap extension tubes and even the Canon tubes get a but finicky when you try and stack them. The biggest flaw (and this likely doesn't matter to most people) is that for a lot of Canon L series telephotos, these tubes interfere with the IS mechanism and you get very odd IS stuttering that makes photography a bit difficult and MAY damage the IS mechanism if done repeatedly. My guess is that the tube contacts don't carry enough current to keep the IS going and the gyros park when the current drops below some threshold. Of course, it may be a microprocessor issue as well. In either case, I can verify that these tubes will not work with the 100-400/L, 500/4, and the 600/4. I probably should have tested them on more IS lenses, but sent them back in short order once I realized that they would not perform the required tasks.I paid a lot more for the Canon tubes instead. Wish I didn't have to, but I didn't have a choice.

Each extension tube worked great when used by itself on a lens. But when any combination of tubes were used on a lens they wouldn't autofocus or control the aperture. I have a 5D mark II and a 40D, 70-200mm lens, 24-105mm lens and 17-55mm EFS lens. I had the same results no matter what camera or lens combination I used. And it didn't matter in what order I connected everything - same results. I love Cowboy Studio's stuff and prices but this was very disappointing.
