Product Description
The AF Extension Tube Set is designed specifically for use with Nikon digital SLR cameras, can transform your Lens into a Macro Lens. It moves the lens from the film or digital sensor. The closer the focus is, the greater the magnification. The extension tube does not affect image quality as there is no optics inside. In comparison, a close up filter is often blamed for degrading the quality of image.
This tube set contains three piece tubes of different length -- 12mm, 20mm, and 36 mm -- which can be used individually or in any combination to obtain the desired magnification. These extension tubes are designed with all the circuitry and mechanical coupling to maintain auto focus and TTL auto exposure with most Nikon lenses, given there is enough light to activate the cameras AF system properly.

Not as described or pictured, and not autofocus, auto anything.

I ordered this and couldn't believe my eyes when I opened the box. First of all, it had obviously been returned at least once already as the box was dirty and torn, and half open. That's not a deal-breaker as I don't buy stuff for the box, but it gives a poor first impression. Upon opening it, I found a set of manual extension tubes that appear identical to the ten dollar Fotodix ones. The sections screw together and obviously have no contacts to allow autofocus or metering. There were no caps either. Or any instructions or paperwork. Totally different than described or pictured. I might have written this off as an Amazon error, however I have now read some reviews on other Cowboystudio items that make me believe it is not. I would stay away from this "brand" for now.

Item Failed and VERY Slow Replacement Service UPDATED

I purchased CowBoyStudio Nikon auto-focus macro extension tubes. They worked well for about six weeks, then the 20mm tube would not make electrical connection with any of the three Nikon DSLR bodies and four lenses that I attempted. The contacts were polished to ensure no corrosion was preventing a connection but still no luck getting it to work. The 12 and 36mm tubes continue to work great singly and in combination, but the 20mm tube doesn't make electrical connectivity at all.I contacted CowboyStudio to see about getting a replacement for the 20mm tube. They gave me an RMA# for the return and replacement. The item was returned via UPS and Proof of Delivery shows that it was received by Cowboy Studio on Jun 14th.On Saturday, Jun 30th, I still hadn't received the replacement so I contacted CowboyStudio to see what was happening. I got a reply on Tuesday, July 3rd, that they were checking on the status. A few days later I got an email with a USPS tracking number for the replacement item.Today is Wednesday, July 18th, and I still have not received the item. When I check the tracking number the USPS tracking site shows that electronic shipping info was received on July 7th, but nothing after that.I've sent emails and filled contact forms with CowboyStudio three additional times in the last week and had zero response.So, what's the bottom line? The 20mm auto-focus extension tube failed in about six weeks. CowboyStudio provided an RMA# for a replacement. They received the returned/failed 20mm tube about five weeks ago. They have not provided a replacement and are now not responding to requests for an update on what is happening. Overall a very frustrating experience.Would I buy from CowboyStudio in the future? You decide.UPDATE:The replacement 20mm tube arrived on Friday, July 20th exactly 36 days after the original defective 20mm tube was received by CowboyStudio. I got an email from CowboyStudio on Thursday, July 19th that it had been mailed.I've upgraded the rating to three-stars from one-star because they did replace the defective item, but IMHO it shouldn't have taken 36 days from receipt of the returned 20mm tube.Now I asked a rhetorical question in the original portion of the review about whether I would buy from CowboyStudio in the future. Well the answer is yes. I have purchased from CowboyStudio on several occasions in the past either directly or thru Amazon and have always found the items to be a good value. I've had the one unpleasant experience described in this review, but will view that as an anomaly until proven otherwise. I should also mention that the customer service contacts I had via email with CowboyStudio were always professional and polite -- it just shouldn't have taken 5+ weeks for the replacement process so there seems to be a problem somewhere in the process. In any event that's my perspective.
