Product Description
Kenko AF 1.4x Super High Quality Teleplus converter also has genuine Gated Array IC and is compact for light weight and easy handling. Full AF is capable with lenses having a maximum aperture of F/4.5 or brighter. (Manual focusing will be required with lenses of smaller aperture.)Placed between the camera body and lens, a teleconverter contains a set of optics that will effectively increase the focal length of a lens by a specific amount. Common magnifications are 1.4 times and 2 times, but the Kenko teleplus PRO 300 AF converter has a 3x magnification. For example, using a 2 times (2x) teleconverter will increase the focal of 300mm lens to 600mm. The Teleplus PRO 300 converters are made with high quality multi-coated optical glass supplied by Hoya Corporation, the worlds largest manufacturer of optical glass. These glass elements are designed to match the optical quality of the prime lens (even at the edges) and telephoto zoom lenses. The optical design of the elements and light path is wide enough not to cause vignetting. The PRO 300 family is designed specifically to be used with prime telephoto lenses of 100mm or above, such as, a 300 mm f/2.8 lens, and work best with telephoto lenses of 200mm to 500mm. The PRO 300 can be used with telephoto zoom lenses as well as prime lenses. However, Kenko does not recommend them for zoom lenses that have a range starting under 50 mm.

Very good
By Photography Fan
Tried it, works with the following lenses:1. Canon EF 50mm F/1.4 USM. (Auto focus ok)2. Canon EF 75-300mm F/4-5.6 USM II (Auto focus ok)3. Sigma 50-500mm F/5-6.3 OS APO HSM (no auto focus)4. Sigma 8-16mm F/4.5-5.6 HSM (auto focus ok)5. Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD (auto focus ok)Notes:1. Aperture drops by 1 stop as expected.2. Reports correct focal length and aperture.3. Quite soft with the Canon 50mm F/1.4 at largest aperture. "Dreamy" portraits.4. Tamron 70-300 @ 300mm with teleconverter (x1.4=420mm)is almost as sharp or sharper than the Sigma 50-500 @ 420mm without the teleconverter.5. Focus hunts a bit with the Tamron 70-300 when there is not enough light (around sunset).6. Does not work with EF-S lenses due to the protruding part at the back of the EF-S lenses.

Great TC! Very versatile and useful!
By Brian Wallace
I purchased this teleconverter to replace my DG version because of the updated reporting. I've used this TC with a number of lenses including:Tamron 17-50 f/2.8Canon 50 f/1.4Canon 85 f/1.8Canon 70-200 f4Sigma 70-200 f2.8Canon 300 f4I also own the Canon 1.4x extender and have found their performance to be comparable. It is an especially good option for Canon's fast budget prime lenses (50 1.4/1.8, 85 1.8, 100 2.0) since they have big apertures but aren't compatible with the Canon. On these primes it performs especially well stopped down one stop. So a 50 f1.4 becomes a very usable 70 f2.5 or 2.8 and the 85 1.8 becomes a very usable 120 f3.5. You can think of this as a good option for convenience more so than speed. If you try and use this to make a 70 f2 you'll be disappointed in how soft the picture. It works extremely well (even wide open) with my longer zooms and my 300 prime. The other huge benefit to this teleconverter is that it will not disable autofocus if you use it with a reporting f5.6 lens. For example, if you own the EF 400mm f5.6 and put the Canon 1.4x on it and put it on anything but a 1D series camera the autofocus would be disabled. Not so with this one - the minimum aperture is reported correctly (f8) but the autofocus continues to be enabled. Of course, good light is a must for accurate autofocus. This is not an issue with a non-reporting lens like a 70-300 IS USM, it will attempt to autofocus no matter what). All in all a worthy and viable alternative to the Canon 1.4

Good product
By Christopher W. Burke
I have been using this TC with my Canon 300mm F4 IS for nearly a year now. Pictures with the converter attached are significantly more detailed than when using the lens without the converter and then cropping pictures to equal magnification. For birders using this Canon 300mm lense you will appreciate this converter. Feather detail is much better using the converter. Picture quality remains excellant with the converter. I cannot see any quality loss even at 1:1. Very well pleased with this profuct. Also, it interfaces nicely with lens and camera.
