Opteka 500mm f8

I bought the lens becouse I needed something a little longer. Went thru the set up for the lens. Took the first shoot and was very upset with the photo (Digital Photo)Went back and made sure that I had set it up correctly,All ok. Mounted it on a tripod and the next shot was a lot better.sand bagged the tripod and the next shot was even better. Ok guys here is the skinny, Even mirror slap will mess up this lens, Get it rock solid and you will be very supprised at the out come. When I had an understanding of the problem, after that I just made sure I did my part. RandyPs. Mirror slap (bounce) is and old problem with long lens. Look it up in your Best photo Book

A good, handy lens

Not the absolute in quality, but for the price, well worth it. This type of mirror lens has an effect of blurring around the edges of the image. Its not the quality of the product, but the natural effect of most mirror lenses. In my case, it adds some particularly interesting effects, and drives the subject into greater clarity by making the background less, but different from the typical DOF effect.Pros:* Supplied with handy and useful filters* Lens bag is cheap leather, but I like it. I hate those velvet covers that come with most other lenses.Cons:* Manual focus, but inexpensive* Focus ring is very slow as it has to extend/retract the lens significantly* Once the t-adapter is installed on the lens, allowing it to be mounted on the camera, you cannot fit the provided rear-lens cover, so you'll need to purchase one. Wolf Camera or other specialty camera stores carry the f-mount compatible rear lens cover for about $4.Suggestions:* Usefully only in very bright, outdoor conditions* Use a tripod or mono-pod with this lens as often as possible.

A very poor choice for a lens. Would not recommend this lens unless it comes with a generous return policy.Lens is not sharp & has very poor contrast.
