Works well for both 52mm and 58mm lens's

Before I purchased this product I read the only review I could find and it was very negative, the buyer said he couldn't get it to focus. I took me only a minute to install and do my first slide conversion completely in focus. This product is well made with a metal tube and adapter / mounting rings. It is ready for either 52mm or 58mm with all hardware supplied. It seems to work best for matching the slide to the exposure field around 100mm+/-. The light diffuser is more than adequate. The unit is study. It also has a detachable (52mm threaded) diopter lens that they claim can be used for macro shots; I did not try this but the I did test the mounting and see no reason way it will not work.There are two aspects of this unit that I am not thrilled about but they are easily overcome. First, the slide holder does not have any detents or stops to let you know when the slide is properly centered in the carriage. However, when the slide holder is flush to the carriage it is in right position; you can easily tell by feel when pushing it into position. The second issue is a symptom of the way it works; basically the slide carriage assembly rotates around the end of the tube and it can be locked in place with a thumb screw. This allows you to adjust between landscape and portrait slides. There are two issues with this: a) you must visually line up the angle and b) you need to focus first and then rotate because the entire tube rotates as you focus (I am using a Nikon DSLR and it might be different with other lenses). To over come this I set my camera on a table, focused, locked the slide carriage assembly and then shot images using a remote shutter release. With some practice it gets easier.The bottom line is that is system is pretty easy and fast. It certainly beats paying for slide to digital conversions and the image conversion quality is completely in your control. Now I need to find the time and energy to start conversion of my fathers massive slide collection...
