I'm Just Getting Started

First, let's get this out of the way... the picture submitted by Kay M is not of this lens, the first picture is the correct one.OK! This is a fully manual lens. There is an "A" position on the aperture ring, but it doesn't work with my K-r... OH, I GET IT NOW! Kay M, K-m. OK, Good one...Anyhoo, even the zoom is not turn-to-zoom, but push-pull. The first time I got it to move, it seemed a little stiff, as in "is this going to damage my new toy?" stiff, but a couple cycles and now it feels more like it's just well damped. Not like friction stiff, but almost like it's pneumatic. Which is good... you don't want it to flop around if you point up or down, right? I would still recommend supporting the base of the lens when adjusting to take the stress off the mount. I'm too new to "real" photography to comment on the image quality, (I've been taking pix since disco, but it was always just "click-click, why does it not look like I want it to?") but so far I don't see any of the nasties that inexpensive lenses are supposed to be plagued with, purple fringing, etc. One other plus, the accessory mount is the same as the kit lens, so even if you only mean this to be a temporary lens until you can save up the shell for that high-end glass, you don't have to invest in a bunch of new filters!My overall impression is positive. I'm just finishing reading a how-to book (Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson) that recommends shooting manual or Av, so this lens is a perfect one to learn on.
