A lot of lens for the price.

I give it 5 Stars because it exceeds my expectations for an inexpensive mirror lens.Will a primary lens with a fluorite objective element have better color saturation and finer detail?Yes, but they cost 10 to 30 times as much and I seldom have need for anything more than 200mm.Mounted on a Canon 60D with remote shutter release and tripod, the 1000mm configuration has allowed me to capture images of birds and other critters in distant tree tops, or in flight, as well as aircraft, that turn out better than using primary lenses with shorter focal lengths and blowing up to print. Great for taking pictures of the Moon. Handheld, you're limited to higher shutter speeds, but that is true of any long lens.Another pleasant surprise is using this lens as a "Pseudo-Macro" lens. Minimum focal distance is about 6 feet, but with a 500mm lens on a camera with an APS-C sensor, the effective distance is only about 5 inches, so you can get large images of small objects without having to get too close to them.If I did more telephoto work, I'd get longer primary and zoom lenses, but for my needs, this compact, lightweight, inexpensive combo does everything I ask of it, and then some.

I give it a 5 on 5.. definitely.. Ever since I got my Nikkor 70-300.. I had always wished for more zoom.. but being a photographer just out of passion.. I knew i could never justify the exorbitant prices (by my standards) of a pro quality lens.. Saw this on Amazon.. and thought of giving it a try.. And for the price it is offered in.. it was a very tempting proposition..Tried this on Birds with my Nikon D5000.. handheld at 500 mm.. It is pretty good given the fact that it is fully manual.. and then tried it on the moon.. at 1000mm (with the teleconvertor provided).. amazing.. just mind blowing amazing.. although it takes some time to acquire the subject!!!I might end up buying a Nikkor 500mm a few years down the lane.. but for now..am fully satisfied for the price I paid..

Got the lens and I finally got a chance to put it through it's paces. Not much info was enclosed with the package so it took awhile to figure the settings. After practice and many deletes, it has become second nature for me, but thank goodness for the delete button on the camera. One bummer, is that I did not use the extension tube until very recently, and found,, much to my dismay, it did not fit my camera!!!(canon rebel EOS). I will have to straighten that out if I am able, after this time. Over all good for the price.D.C.E.
