Product Description
Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the new Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 EX DC HSM. This super-wide angle lens has a maximum aperture of F3.5 throughout the entire zoom range. With its wide angle view from 102.4 degrees it can produce striking images with exaggerated perspective. The maximum aperture of F3.5 is ideal for indoor shooting and it enables photographers to emphasize the subject. Two ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements and a SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element provide excellent correction of color aberration. Four aspherical lenses provide correction for distortion and allow compact and lightweight construction. The Super Multi-Layer coating reduces flare and ghosting. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. The incorporation of HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor) ensures a quiet and high-speed auto focus as well as full-time manual focusing capability. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 9.4 inches (24cm) throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.6. The lens design incorporates an inner focusing system which eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for using the Petal-type hood and polarizing filter. The Petal-type hood blocks extraneous light and reduces internal reflection.

Nice lens, but might not work with Sony a77
By B. Byrd
Be careful! This lens MIGHT not work with the Sony a77 (and a65)! Yesterday this lens arrived, I attached it to my a77, and found that the autofocus did NOT work! After searching around the Web, I found a page on the Sigma Web site that said there are TWO recent versions of this lens: an older version, which has a sticker on the box saying "a33, a55 compatible" and a newer version with a sticker on the box saying "a65, a77 compatible".Even though the newer version has been out since October 2011, apparently Amazon had an older supply, because the lens I was sent had the "a33, a55 compatible" sticker, and not the "a65, a77 compatible" sticker. You can find this page on the Sigma Web site for yourself. Just go to their site and search for "a77" ... it's the only document that is returned as a search result.I contacted Sigma, and they said the compatibility issue is in the firmware, which they can update. But I need to send the lens to them (at my expense!). After paying this much for a lens, I sure don't feel like going through that hassle and expense, especially when the problem is not my fault.I contacted Amazon, and they said I could definitely return the lens and order again, but they could give no guarantee that I would receive the newer model.I contacted Adorama directly, asking if they could guarantee that I would get the newer model if I order from them, but I did not hear back from them all day, so I'm still hanging on that one.I've looked carefully on the Amazon, Adorama, BHphoto, and 47thStreet Web sites, and there is NOTHING in any of the product descriptions that talk about compatibility with certain Sony Alpha models. So if I order from any of these places, I have no idea if I will get the older, incompatible model or the newer compatible one.I wanted to share this with anyone who might be considering buying this lens. I don't have a solution for you, but at least you have been alerted to the problem!UPDATE - April 2, 2012 - I did finally get the correct lens from BHphoto and it works fine on my a77 camera. Be sure to read the comments connected to this review.UPDATE - May 20, 2012 - I'm changing the star rating from 3 to 4 stars. Today I did some testing between this lens and the Sony DT 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 Aspherical ED Super Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Sony Alpha Digital SLR Camera. From the results I obtained, this Sigma lens is clearly the better of the two. You can see the test photos for yourself on my web site, which Amazon won't let me put a link to. Google "Brian Byrd's Photo Blog" ... it should be the first result. Go to that page, click on the "Blog" link in the upper-right corner of the page, and then find the blog entry for May 20, 2012 titled "Sony vs. Sigma Wide-Angle Lens Shootout".

Results are OK but not more than that
By Dan Glotter
I took 2 picturesWith my existing Sony 16-50 f/2.8and the New 10-20 f/3.5I took 2 pictures at 16mm from same place and same settingsThe Sony f/2.8 lens results is signifuicantly better than the Sigma (its not that the Sigma was distortated or bad ir was just not as great as the Sony)Personally, I should have spent my money on another better lens

Surpassed my expectations!
By Edward Burton
I'm a prime lens kind of guy, but made the exception with this lens because it covered the whole wide angle spectrum so completely. First, I must say the lens feels solid and built like a tank. The black matte finish looks as good as it is functional. It gets some looks when coupled up to my Sony A300.The first pictures I took amazed me. Scenics looked like calendar shots. And it's nifty to be able to set the camera up on a tripod in a corner of the room during holidays and get the entire room full of people in the shot. Oddly, and this is simply the nature of this type of lens, but instead of stepping back to get everything in the shot, you'll actually find yourself bringing the camera forward so everything doesn't seem so far away. The perspective this lens offered made me look at shooting in a completely new way.I spent the extra two hundred dollars for the f/3.5 so I could utilize it in low light, but in truth, this lens lets in so much light regardless, that low light has not been an issue with taking great photographs with this lens. There is some distortion in the corners, as a previous reviewer aforementioned, but that's the nature of this beast. Personally, I think it's an interesting effect. This corner distortion phenomenon certainly won't flatter people sitting in the sidelines, but for such things as object and landscape photography I have nothing to complain about. This was a good purchase, and the lens has become a very important lens in my kit bag.
