It comprises 8 optical elements and is based on the symmetric Carl Zeiss Biogon design. This wide-angle lens is an ideal companion for the 50 mm Planar standard lens. Its features include high image quality without color fringes, haze or reflection. Furthermore, the lens provides an astonishing close range of 0.5 m, making it ideal for travel, landscape and cityscape photography. Why M-mount? For more than 50 years now, passionate 35 mm photographers have been embracing the M-mount rangefinder camera system. From the lens designer's perspective, a rangefinder camera offers an exciting advantage over single lens reflex (SLR) cameras: more space. After all, there is no moving reflex mirror and drive mechanism. One-lens Streetshooter

This lens is solidly-built for the streets. It's not too small to be difficult, and not so large that it obscures the viewfinder too much. The raised bump on the 6 'o clock portion of the focusing ring makes quick focusing, and it's knurled all around the perimeter if you like focusing the conventional way with thumb & index finger. Both methods are easy and quick. If the focusing bump is at 6 'o clock, the lens is focused at 4 feet, by the way.Aperture goes from f/2.8 to f/22, and each stop is separated in thirds! How nice is that? This is a fantastic lens. I've been using it without a lens hood, and I have not encountered problems with flare.

The Zeiss Ikon 28mm f2.8 T* ZM Bigon lens is a Zeiss-designed, Cosina-built lens for the new Zeiss Ikon rangefinder camera. It is a new Biogon design that is similar, but not identical, to the Contax 28mm f2.8 T* Biogon lens made for the Contax G-Series autofocus rangefinder cameras. It has been rated as an exceptional lens by a Japanese photography magazine, offering performance that is comparable to the Leica 28mm f2.8 Elmarit-M lens but at nearly half the cost of a brand new Leica lens. It has the same 46mm filter thread shared by the latest, current version of the Leica lens. I look forward to adding this lens to my 35mm rangefinder kit. The silver chrome finish will appeal to those who have silver chrome M camera bodies or are interested in a "retro" look to their lens equipment or both.(EDITORIAL NOTE 12/29/10: Since writing the review I have acquired one and think it's one of the very best 28mm lenses I have used in M-mount, only my 28mm Summicron is better. The lens is quite sharp and contrasty at all apertures, even wide open. I also love it for its relative compactness too.).
