A great lens for perfect 35mm shots...Must buy for all DSLR owners

I bought this to improve my range and image quality over the stock lenses - 18-55mm and 75-300mm and the result was visible from the first shot onwards. As with any IS/AF lens, it amazingly fast on focus and handles very well in moving object. I am a pilot and the IS feature is must have for me and believe me compared to Nikon's VR, Canon is a lot better, but that's just my opinion.One suggestion I give it on all my reviews on lenses is to purchase a good quality UV filter to go with it. I also have a lens hood for this lens. These will really protect the lens and you will thank me later :))

Fantastic Lens, Great Range

I purchased this lens to go with a new camera body, and have been extremely happy with its performance. At 18mm, I can take a full body image of a person standing three feet in front of me, while zooming out to 135mm allows amazing clarity and focus on far-away items. The focus is fast and quiet, and the lens is intuitive. This is a great all-around lens for someone that only wants to use one lens on their camera, and shoot in multiple areas.

Ok lens, I don't care for it.

I got this lens with a 60d, and I must say I was not happy with the quality. If you try to shoot wide open, the images are horribly soft. You have to have the f-stop at 5.6-8 for the images to come out sharp, and by that time you've lost a lot of light and DOF. The Focus ring is super loose, and the range is really small, so it's hard to focus sometimes. The build quality is good, but all I really care about are the internals, and they're not too great. I purchased this in a 60d kit to film commercials, and figured the kit lens would be fine since I'm using it at such a low resolution compared to what it's designed for until I get more lenses. I actually prefer to shoot with anything else, I've used the XSi kit 18-55mm, a 50mm 1.8, even a pentax 28mm f2.8 P/K mount with an adapter looked 10x better, and that's a $30 lens off of ebay.Canon Makes good glass, but this was just a failure. If you've got a kit 18-55 and are looking for a super zoom, the 28-135 is much better. If you need a super super zoom, there's a tamron 18-270mm. if you're just looking for better image quality, you could just get a 50mm 1.8, or if you've got a bigger budget go for a 50mm 1.4, sigma 30mm 1.4, or even the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8. All of these are great lenses that will last, and if you ever decide to start making money with photography, the sigma and Tamron are good enough to be used professionally.
