The Bower 2x 72mm Telephoto Lens does exactly what it should for a very low price. I use it for an HDV video camera and it works great when zoomed in between 75% and 95%. When zooming in all the way, the lens produces some chroma shift and when zooming out there is heavy vignetting (tunnel vision), but in that sweet spot it delivers a nice close-up. Overall for the money (which is less than 10% of it's high-end compeditors), it is a good lens.

Received this item and immediately had to try it out. Easy enough attaching this to the end of my Ultrasonic 29-135mm lens. I began to take a few pictures and noticed a fuzzy haze surrounding all of my photos. I began playing with the settings and could not eliminate the fuzzy haze around the photos. I am using the auto focus on a Cannon EOS 40D that normally takes beautiful high quality photos. I have read many reviews after the fact of buying this item and notice many people with the same issue. I guess I will have to read a bit more and see if it is my lack of knowledge in photography or the quality of the product itself.

I must say I'm very pleased with the result using this conversion lens. I've just uploaded the photos of my dog using this lens to show the result. There's no chromatic aberration and the picture is sharp in the center, and lensbaby-like effect around the edge. With larger focal length, the lensbaby effect tends to soften. This is also true for object closer to the camera (closeup photo) where the depth of field is narrowed to the object. For focusing on far objects or using small focal length, I hope you like the lensbaby effect (people spend a lot of money for lensbaby composer though).I'm using Canon Powershot G1x with 58mm filter adapter and put 58mm to 72mm stepup ring. The autofocus works great. It's accurate with or without this convertor attached to the camera lens. I set AF mode to FlexiZone with AF-assist beam lights up. Maybe that what makes a big difference in autofocus performance from other reviewers that reported having problem with autofocus?The sensor size could make a different on how the image would look like too. G1x has sensor almost as large as APS-C sensor used in entry level DSLR. For bridge camera with considerably small sensor, I can imagine the lensbaby effect would disappear.One downside of this conversion lens is, it's very big and heavy. I have to hold the lens with my other hand when turning the camera on and point it downward. The same when turning the camera off and the lens is retracting. And throughout the time this lens is attached to my camera, my left hand keeps holding this lens. I guess this conversion lens is not for everyday use, or otherwise your camera lens and/or the motor would be busted sooner or later.
