This extreme 650-1300mm f/8-16 Manual Focus Lens from Bower is an economical way to achieve some ultra-telephoto photography, all the way up to 1300mm. This is a T-mount lens, which means that aperture is not communicated to or controlled by the camera body and as such must be used only in aperture-priority auto exposure mode (if your camera has it) or in the manual exposure mode.It will work on both "full frame" digital cameras as well as the smaller-format APS-C (15 x 22mm) cameras, but has only one effective aperture at any focal length, which varies from f/8.0 at 650mm to f/16.0 at 1300mm. That's not much of a hindrance, however, as you'd likely use this lens at its relatively small maximum aperture in any case.This lens requires bright light and a high ISO setting on the camera to get a fast shutter speed (or fast film in a film camera) and needs a sturdy tripod or monopod, but can deliver very sharp results if used properly.

I think, at this price, the quality of the optics is surprisingly good. The things that bug me are the stickiness when adjusting the zoom, and manual focus. You got to have a good eyesight to constantly adjust the focus when shooting moving object, such as airplane in my case. Also, I had to try for several times to make the exposure right as the light sensing meter on my camera (20D) gives totally wrong readings (at least 7-speed away from the right exposure, p.s., I am using time-vary exposure).

For the price one pays, the above Bower SLY650T 650-1300mm is the best one I have come across. Overall quality is Excellent, it,s Quick Focusing is fast and one can achieve that with very little effort, because of it,s Zoom-Power one has to have either extremely Steady Hand to hold it OR use the Heavy Duty Tripod. It,s weight plus the SLR or DSLR-Camera must be mounted on HD Tripod or you are going to take a chance if it fell off. Heavy winds also hinder it to be Steady on light Tripod. It,s very good for Manual focusing over all. The only Hinderance I have come across is that there is No One for it,s Warranty or Repair/ Service- I could find in US. I had no luck from the Dealer,s either. There is No Warranty Card as well as Manufacturer,s Contact in US( The Camera Store,s in US simply sell it- and if you need information for The Manufacturer- all give the run-around and if one did not buy from a specific Dealer- they hang up the call )- what a Shame. Thus, buy it From; AMAZON,s affiliate Sellors, but contact Sellor directly for the Return Policy and the place who will take it back in case you did not like it- otherwise it,s a gamble. Amazon- always helps.
