Product Description

Kenko AF 2.0x Super High Quality Teleplus converter also has genuine Gated Array IC and is compact for light weight and easy handling. Full AF is capable with lenses having a maximum aperture of F/4.5 or brighter. (Manual focusing will be required with lenses of smaller aperture.)Placed between the camera body and lens, a teleconverter contains a set of optics that will effectively increase the focal length of a lens by a specific amount. Common magnifications are 1.4 times and 2 times, but the Kenko teleplus PRO 300 AF converter has a 3x magnification. For example, using a 2 times (2x) teleconverter will increase the focal of 300mm lens to 600mm. The Teleplus PRO 300 converters are made with high quality multi-coated optical glass supplied by Hoya Corporation, the worlds largest manufacturer of optical glass. These glass elements are designed to match the optical quality of the prime lens (even at the edges) and telephoto zoom lenses. The optical design of the elements and light path is wide enough not to cause vignetting. The PRO 300 family is designed specifically to be used with prime telephoto lenses of 100mm or above, such as, a 300 mm f/2.8 lens, and work best with telephoto lenses of 200mm to 500mm. The PRO 300 can be used with telephoto zoom lenses as well as prime lenses. However, Kenko does not recommend them for zoom lenses that have a range starting under 50 mm.

5Canon Compatible Lens multiplier
By Roland Mata
The Kenko 2.0X Pro 300 lens multiplier is a cost effective way to have a much larger lens. Kenko uses Hoya glass lenses in this product. Hoya lenses are among the best made glass lenses in the world. The different lens series made by Canon causes not all lenses to work with the 2.0X lens multiplier made by Canon. Buyers should always be mindful of compatibility when mixing and matching products for your favorite camera. For example, while I was searching for a 2.0x lens to add to my Canon lens (75-300mm) I noted that some listings on the web listed a lens multiplier with similar nomenclature information with one small difference. The difference I noted was with "DGX" Vs "DG". The "DG" lenses listed were physically different than the "DGX". The picture shown for a "DG" lens had a small metal tab with contact pins which protruded beyond the edge of the lens on the end that connects to the camera body. This metal tab is not present in the "DGX" version. This tab would not have fit my lens. As with all multiplier lenses the auto focus function may not work at all magnifications. I tested the multiplier with my zoom lens and found no picture distortion on the outer edges at any setting while making small manual adjustments. Picture quality was consistently excellent. The quality of workmanship of the lens is exceptional. Kenko uses a metal housing for the lens. I hope you find this info helpful.

5Comparable to Canon, better features!
By Brian Wallace
First things first - if you're looking at buying this teleconverter know what you're buying. If you're hoping to use this with a consumer grade zoom lens you may be disappointed and would probably be better off looking at a 1.4x teleconverter. These 2x teleconverters are designed to work with f2.8 lenses or faster (although I've had very good luck using it with f4 lenses)I originally purchased this teleconverter and then decided to purchase a Canon 2x II to see how they would compare. What my tests revealed was that on a crop frame camera (Rebel, 40D, 60D, 7D) and my 70-200 f2.8 lens their performance was virtually the same. I ended up selling my Canon and using this 2x Kenko. The other big advantage of this teleconverter over the Canon 2x is how it performs on f4 lenses. On my 70-200 f4 or my 300 f4 the Canon 2x would disable autofocus unless I used the "tape trick" (google it) to trick the camera into not seeing the teleconverter. The Kenko doesn't do that - it correctly reports the maximum aperture as f8 and the correct focal length but doesn't disable the autofocus functionality. When shooting in good light I've found the autofocus on my f4 lenses to be very accurate even with the reduced aperture. In the end, I think this is a better choice than the Canon 2x.

5Autofocus works with f4 lenses
By Christopher W. Burke
To confirm another review on this extender, autofocus does work with this extender on f4 lenses (at least my Canon 300 f4 IS and Canon 70-200 f4 non-IS version). I have found the picture quality to be very good with with these lenses. I am shooting with Canon xsi and t2i bodies, and both work fine with this extender. Also, camera information is retained and the changes caused by the extender are properly accounted for.One thing I've observed with my extenders is that they also magnify the softness, noise, blur from shake, etc. A lens that tends to be soft will yield unacceptably soft pictures with the extender. I tried my 1.4x extender on my Sigma 18-250, which is a soft lens, and the results were very poor. This is important to know, because I think extenders are taking the blame for the lenses in many cases. I have found that both the Kenko 1.4x and 2x DGX Pro 300 extenders work very well on high quality L-glass, and also on my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, which is also a very sharp lens. Also worth noting here, the fact that the f-stop doubles with a 2x extender, the reduced speed increases possible blur from shake, especially when hand holding. This fact, compounded by a 2x focal lengh, and you have a worthless picture. Another thing to watch for is with smaller aperatures and/or lower light, the camera will default to higher ISO speeds if ISO is set on auto, which with the extender will tend to magnified the noise caused by high ISO. Again, with a 2x focal length the noise is also magnified and may yield unacceptable pictures. Both of these Kenko DGX Pro 300 extenders are fine quality with high quality glass. They will produce high quality shots when used with quality lenses and good shooting skills and optimum camera settings.I hope this is helpful!
