Product Description
The 8mm f/3.5 Pro-Optic Fish-Eye CS lens is a breakthrough in optical design producing the first affordable fish-eye lens designed for digital SLRs that have APS-sized sensors. APS-C sensors have a multiplication factor of 1.5 or 1.6X so the effect the lens produces will vary slightly between cameras. The well-constructed and precision designed lens features a built in lens hood and a sturdy locking lens cap to protect the large front element from damage when it's stored or not being used to make photographs. The optical construction consists of ten elements in seven groups and is computer optimized to produce clear, crisp photographs, which is critical with a lens like this that is capable of extreme depth-of-field. When set at f/22 the result is a great range in depth-of-field that makes focusing less critical. The field of view with the APS-sized sensor is a full 180° producing the kind of super wide-angle view found only in much more expensive lenses. With a close focusing distance of just 12 inches and its outstanding angle-of-view and deep depth-of-field, users will be able to produce truly unusual and dramatic close-up photographs. The compact size makes it ideal for travel photographers who want to add new perspectives to their work. The lens is also perfect for architectural interiors, landscapes, and special effects photography. And for infra-red explorers this lens will open up a new world.

A Little Gem!
By Simon
I bought this lens from Adorama for my Sony SLT-A77. In the box there were no lens pouch, only front and rear caps and the lens itself with built-in lens hood. That was the first reason why I exchanged this lens for the Vivitar version. In addition, Vivitar version matches A77 color and style much better than this lens. This lens has gold/white prints and gold front ring, but Vivitar has red/white prints and a nice red front ring. The red prints on Vivitar matches A77 body even nicer. I also reviewed Vivitar 7mm that you can find here: Series-1 7mm F/3.5 180 Degree Fish Eye Manual Focus Lens For Sony Alpha & Minolta Maxxum Aps-C Sized Digital Slr Cameras. Since these two lenses are the exact same lens, I copy a brief section from that review here that may help your decision:This lens is made by Samyang and rebranded for many other brands and different mounts. Samyang rebrands the same exact lens for Bower, Rokinon, Opteka, Pro-Optic, Falcon, Vivitar, Polar, Walimex, Bell + Howell, and so on. Even when you see different focal lengths, they are the exact same lens: Rokinon 8mm, Vivitar 7mm, or Opteka 6.5mm. All of them except Vivitar even look exactly the same. Vivitar is a little different on the outside with a rubber focus ring, red front ring, and red and white prints instead of the common white and gold appearance of others. So, just get the one that is cheaper or go with Vivitar. I first got the Pro-Optic version but exchanged it later for Vivitar. I kind of like how Vivitar looks on the Sony SLT-A77, because the red prints match the camera logo even better. Here you can see a list of a few variations of this particular lens:Series-1 7mm F/3.5 180 Degree Fish Eye Manual Focus Lens For Sony Alpha & Minolta Maxxum Aps-C Sized Digital Slr CamerasPro-Optic 8mm f/3.5 Manual Focus, Fish Eye Lens with Sony / Minolta Mount.Rokinon FE8M-S 8mm F3.5 Fisheye Lens for Sony Alpha (Black)Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 Manual Focus Aspherical Fisheye Lens for Pentax K-7, K20D, K20, K200D, K200, and K2000 Digital SLR CamerasBower SLY358S Ultra Wide-Angle 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens for SonyBell and Howell 8mm f/3.5 Aspherical Fisheye Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras
