I am not well versed in photography to know whether this really is a 12x zoom, but i can assure you that this really has a powerful zoom from across a 2000 sq. ft. space (rec center). I was able to really see stuff i didn't think was possible without a nice point-and-shoot camera. The packaging is also very nice, if you are into that. I liked that Route 66 provided a tri-pod, iPhone holder, and cleaning cloth. I prefer the Joby GorillaPod, Joby grip tight, and a nicer eyeglass cleaning cloth, but found that these extras made for a nice gift to a family member interested in using her iPhone 4 for photos.
