Excellent, Lightweight Zoom Lens

This is probably one of the best lenses I have owned. It is light weight and the optics are excellent. I was very surprised about that when I bought it many years ago. I have used it many, many times on a Minolta Maxxum 9000, Maxxum 9, and Maxxum 7 and, recently, on the Sony Alpha A100 digital SLR.I have a very heavy Maxxum 80-210 F2.8 lens and while it's optics are excellent, there is nothing bad I can say about the 70-210 which is far lighter in weight (and certainly cost).I have probably shot a couple of thousand rolls of film using this lens and I have never been disappointed. Keep the lens CLEAN and scratch free and I think you will be surpised how good this lens is (especially if you are a nit-picker like I am).Testing this lens using print film isn't the best way to go (unless you are using a commercial lab as I have and I still wouldn't recommend print film for testing purposes). Nearly all the film I shot was on slide film which will positively show you how sharp the lens can be (slide filmm is far less forgiving than print film when it comes to sharpness and color...so if something goes wrong with the image it is very likely the photographer's fault, not the camera or the lens).I strongly recommend this lens to both beginners and professionals as well. Don't let the low price (considering it's a lens for an SLR) fool you --- it is well worth the money.

great lens for the price

Excellent telephoto lens snaps some pretty crisp pictures. It takes a bit of getting use to for focusing but after a few hours of practice I could focus successfully on the go. I use it for mostly landscape so far and the sunset colors look great over the mountains.
