More fun than I ever imagined!

I've never been much of a Fisheye fan, because the lenses seemed so expensive for something that gets little use compared to a more normal focal length lens. But as a Q owner, this one was irresistiblly cute and inexpensive. I'm glad I made the leap--this has become a very frequently used lens on my Q!Technically, it's not as sharp as the prime, and obviously is missing some features such as autofocus, the built in shutter, aperture, and ND filter of the Zoom and Prime. But some of these issues are mitigated by the enormous depth of field provided by a 3.2mm f5,6 lens. It's not set and forget, as Pentax has given you way more focus throw than you need, ostensibly to achieve a highly defocused "toy" image if you desire. But achieving focus manually really isn't hard, and once you generally know the lens, you can focus without even looking on the screen.Color and contrast are very good--maybe better than the Zoom, to be honest. Sharpness isn't quite up to the Q's high resolution tiny sensor, but it's good enough for a fairly large print in good light. In poor light, the excellent image stabilization in the Q (which DOES function with the fisheye attached) actually helps quite a bit; I've been able to shoot sharp shots down to 1/2 sec fairly regularly. So the f5.6 aperture isn't a showstopper, and you can expect to be able to use this lens indoors if you're steady and have a bit of light.Really, this lens is all about fun and new perspectives. I've really enjoyed shooting environmental portraits with it--get close to your subject, and shoot like a super wide angle, and you'll get tons of context and can make some poignant images. Architecture is another fun place to use the fisheye, as well as any shots in nature (where the bending verticals are virtually unnoticeable). Try new things, and you're sure to enjoy this addition to your Q kit. I think this is an essential buy for any Q owner.

Fun Pint-Sized Lens

A fun fisheye for a low price. Sharper than expected for the cost, provided that one very carefully focuses using the magnified manual focus view. The f/5.6 fixed aperture is fine outdoors and even usable indoors in low light thanks to the excellent Pentax Q in-body image stabilization and decent higher ISO performance. This lens is cheap, fun and surprisingly capable. Go for it!
